The Marching Band is a group of instrumental musicians and Color Guard who perform outdoors and incorporate marching and other movements with its musical performance. Instrumentation typically includes brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments. Most Marching Bands wear a uniform (often military style) that include the school name or symbol, shakos, pith helmets, feather plumes, gloves, and sometimes gauntlets, sashes, and/or capes.
Marching Bands are generally categorized by function, size, an by the style of show they perform. Many marching bands perform field shows in competition instead of or in addition to traditional parade performances.
